Greenberg grew up in Mahwah, New Jersey, attended college on Long Island and has now climbed through the ranks to broadcast NBA games on a global scale.
Greenberg was confirmed as a member of the NBA on the TNT roster for Tuesday night, and he made his debut during the Celtics-Heat game.
He’s come a long way since his humble beginnings in high school when he opted to enroll in a TV production program at Ramapo College despite the fact that it was exclusively for seniors.
“I can confidently guarantee that if I hadn’t started performing radio in my freshman year of high school. I would not have gotten into Hofstra,” Greenberg told Newsday.
“I probably wouldn’t have gone to college, and there’s no way I’d be a successful person.”
Greenberg opted to attend Hofstra University after receiving encouragement from a friend and coworker Ian Eagle. There he called hundreds of games for WRHU, the school’s radio station.
Greenberg got his first broadcasting job after college in 2005 with the Newark Bears. It is an independent minor league baseball team in the Canadian American Association of Professional Baseball.
He was the Bears’ Media Relations Manager and traveled with the team, broadcasting all away games.
Greenberg continues to work in broadcasting between 2005 and now. Some of the channels he has performed sports reporting are News 12 in the Bronx and select play-by-play and reporting for men’s and women’s college basketball for ESPN 360.
But his favorite gig at the moment was probably working for NBA-TV.
