Ding began playing snooker when he was nine years old, and in 2002, he won the Asian Under-21 Championship and the Asian Championship, propelling him to international stardom.
Being the youngest winner of the IBSF World Under-21 Championship at the age of 15, Ding strarted his professional career at the age of 16 in 2003.
His first major professional victory occurred in 2005, when he won the China Open and the UK Championship, making him the first player outside the United Kingdom and Ireland.
In professional play, he has accumulated more than 550-century breaks, including six maximum breaks.
