Death Valley Purplely Twilight
Twilight in Salt Creek, Death Valley. It's usually bone-dry in Summer (120'F). Only in Spring, shallow streams (up to 5 times saltier than ocean) become a home of playful little fish called Salt Creek Pupfish (Cyprinodon salinus salinus) , the only species of fish survived and adapted to the shallow, hot, very salty water here. The name "Pupfish" comes from their playful behavior (like puppies). They are what some biologists call "living fossils"...
